Trine [
May 8th 2006
Monday, 07:20]
[ mood | Sad ]
[ music | »A dream is a wish your heart makes« by Cher ]

Who has seen Trine?

»Who has seen Trine?«

One of my old friends, who lived a couple of doors down the hall at my dorm, disappeared four years ago.
She had left a short note in her appartment; »I'll be gone for a couple of days« and nobody has heard from her ever since.
The police has been searching everywhere for her, but hasn't been able to locate her.

Until a couple of days ago… Some gardeners had found a human skeleton behind some bushes in a desolate industrial area in the city I work in, and by comparing her dental records, they found out that it was her.
The police assume she committed suicide – apparently she had stolen some lethal medicine from one of her friends and then taken it to commit suicide. She must have wanted to die really bad, since she had chosen such a desolate place where she wouldn't be found – she lived in Copenhagen, and she didn't have any connections (as far as I know) to the place she died.

I feel so bad for her – she has far from had an easy life.
She was raised by her mother's foster parents, since her mother is a drug addict and she doesn't know who Trine's father is. Her mother hasn't been there for her at all – she has probably seen her two or three times a year, but it was mostly when she (her mother) needed some money. Her mother was always stoned when she visited Trine – I remember that she was acting really weird sometimes.
It must be terrible to see your mother in such a condition – especially after not having seen her for several months.

Trine has always been in a league of her own, and she didn't have many friends. I don't think she felt that she belonged anywhere.
She had mentioned to her grandmother that she didn't have one single friend in Copenhagen, which is really a shame, because although she did some crazy things sometimes, she was really sweet and fun to hang out with.

Her mother said to the news that Trine visited her a couple of days before she disappeared, just lying on her bed staring into nowhere. She had said that she didn't want to do what she was about to. Her mother didn't know what she was talking about – I'm sure she was stoned as always – so she didn't take any action. It was probably the last cry for help, and nobody would listen.

Poor Trine… I hope you will find the peace of mind where you are now that you weren't able to find here.

Springtime [
May 4th 2006
Thursday, 06:26]
[ mood | Enjoying a beautiful morning ]
[ music | »Look through my eyes« by Phil Collins ]

Springtime finally came to Denmark. The last couple of days the weather's been really beautiful. And warm – about 24°C. Nice.
I've been out toiling in my garden as much as possible – still haven't cleaned the flower beds for last autumn's weeds, so it's about time something is done.
And there's nothing better than relaxing on a blanket at the lawn with a book and a cold beer. I've been longing for that all winter.

It's been some crazy days at work – I think the budgets have been exceeded every day in the last couple of weeks. And the customers have been totally ridiculous and grumpy, although they ought to be cheerful and smiling because of the nice weather.
A customer was thrown out of the store Saturday, because he had threatened one of our new outdoor staff members with beating him up and running him over with his car afterwards. Just because he (the customer) had been parking illegally and the employee had told him to park elsewhere.
So one of the managers and the assaulted employee went to fetch the customer inside the store and then threw him out.
I was like YEAH! when I saw the customer, since he had been a real jerk towards me a dozen of times, too. Actually he had been really threatening towards me on one of the first days at work. He's quite scary, actually – kinda looks like that creepy man in black clothes and black hat from Poltergeist 2, you know, the one who sings this spooky »God is in his holy temple…« song. Only creepier. Way creepier. More evil-looking. And with a really loud, cruel voice.
And now he isn't allowed to enter the store anymore. Phew. There is a god after all.

Morgen på Atlantis [
April 29th 2006
Saturday, 06:16]
[ mood | Creative ]
[ music | »Angel« by Aretha Franklin ]

Here’s another song translation from the Danish musical »Atlantis«. I really love this song, it’s so calm and beautiful.
The song is performed by Johnny Jørgensen, who also dubs Kovu in »The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride«.

Morgen på Atlantis

DOWNLOAD MP3

Koptos:
Atter ser vi dagen vågne op (Once again we see the day awaken)
Og den skræmmende natteskov (And the frightening, dark forest)
Alle blindt fór rundt i (We all blindly during night were lost in)
Bli’r levende, lys og underfundig (Becomes alive, bright and subtle)
Solen kravler over bjergets top (The sun climbs over the mountain tops)
Og den strækker sig halvdovent (And stretches, half awake)
Hilser mig godmorgen (Wishes me good morning)
Strålerne varmer mig (The rays are warming me)
Og fordriver sorgen (And drive away my sorrow)
For mit hjerte ved: (For my heart knows)

Intet i verden ka’ være så smukt (Nothing in this world can be as beautiful)
Som en morgen på Atlantis (As a morning on Atlantis)
Bjergenes tinder glimter snehvidt (The pinnacles of the mountains are gleaming, white as snow)
Ka’ denne skønhed vare for evigt? (Can this beauty last forever?)
Nej, intet i verden ka’ være så smukt (Oh, nothing in this world can be as beautiful)
Som en morgen på Atlantis (As a morning on Atlantis)
Jeg bli’r stum (I am speechless)
Og slår ærbødigt blikket ned (And I lower my head in respect)
For Atlantis – mit hjem og min kærlighed (For Atlantis – my home and my love)

Morgenluften vækker vores sult (The morning air awakens our hunger)
Og de duggede frugttræer høres (And the dewy fruit trees can be heard)
Sagte kalde: “Spis af os” (Gently calling: “Eat from us”)
Lokker de; “Kom! Spis af alle” (They're tempting; “Come! Eat from us all”)
Videre nu – husk på vi er forfulgt (Now let's go – remember, we are being chased)
Alle fuglene ser os gå ad glemte stier (All the birds watch us follow forgotten paths)
Synge vore skabelsesgamle melodier (Singing along to our ancient melodies)
Synge denne sang: (Singing this song)

Intet i verden ka’ være så smukt (Nothing in this world can be as beautiful)
Som en morgen på Atlantis (As a morning on Atlantis)
Ser I den skønhed nogensinde? (Do you ever see this beauty?)
For mennesker ka’ se, og dog er de blinde (For people can see, and yet they are blind)
Nej, intet i verden ka’ være så smukt (Oh, nothing in this world can be as beautiful)
Som en morgen på Atlantis (As a morning on Atlantis)
Jeres kolde hjerter bryder alting ned (Your cold hearts break down everything)
Selv Atlantis – vort hjem og vor kærlighed (Even Atlantis – our home and our love)

I min barndom (In my childhood)
Var livet som eventyrdigte (Life was like poems from fairytales)
Men barndommen endte en dag; (But childhood ended one day)
Jeg blev voksen (I grew up)
Og voksne er kendt for at svigte (And grown-ups are known not to live)
Nuet og dén, der er svag (In the moment and to let down the weak)

I det evige dyb (In the eternal deep)
Hvor Poseidon har hjemme (Where Poseidon rules)
Får vi udsagt vor dom (We will receive our judgment)
Med hans tordnende stemme (By his thundering voice)

Intet i verden ka’ være så smukt (Nothing in this world can be as beautiful)
Som en morgen på Atlantis (As a morning on Atlantis)
For hvert barn du lod sulte (For every child you let go hungry)
For hver overhørt klage (For every overheard cry)
Vil jeg evigt kræve dette smukke syn tilbage (I will claim back this beautiful sight for all eternity)
Intet i verden ka’ være så smukt (Nothing in this world can be as beautiful)
Som en morgen på Atlantis (As a morning on Atlantis)
For dit stolte hovmod og begærlighed (For your arrogant pride and greediness)
For din halvblinde march i det ondes geled (For your blinkered march in the army of evil)
Ta’r jeg Atlantis – dit hjem og din kærlighed (I will take Atlantis – your home and your love)

Will the sun ever shine again? [
April 28th 2006
Friday, 16:09]
[ mood | Aggravated ]
[ music | »Sugar honey ice tea« by Goodfellaz ]

*sigh*

I had been looking forward to this afternoon the whole week, since it's the only afternoon I'm not going to work. Had been dreaming about just sitting in my garden with a book in one hand and a cold beer in the other. The sun has been shining the entire week – it actually seemed like summer was on its way.
And then what? As soon as I got home from school, it started to rain like hell. Just typical.

Monday evening there was a gospel gathering between our choir and three other choirs. We were singing 5 of our songs for each other. It was quite interesting to hear the other choirs – although they were also singing gospel, they had chosen a totally different type of songs than us.
Our songs are very rhythmic and cheerful – I don't think any of us are very religious, we're just singing because we like singing and because we enjoy spending time together.
It seemed like the other choirs were more religious than us, and their music also sounded somewhat more religious.
One of the choirs have about twice as many members as we have. Around 60 members, I think. They really sounded great – the sound filled every inch of the room. Kept sending shivers down my spine. Amazing.

Tagged by Quasilover [
April 28th 2006
Friday, 11:57]
[ mood | »Working« ]
[ music | None (at school) ]

Once you are tagged you must write a blog about your 6 weird habits/things as well as state this rule clearly. In the end, you need to choose the next six people to be tagged and list their names.

———

1. I talk to myself quite often when I have to concentrate. And when I do talk to myself, it often goes like "Then we have to do... and then we…". Yes, I know I'm a lunatic.
When I’m not talking to myself, I’m often humming or singing instead …or should we say howling. It’s mostly when I’m driving (only when there isn’t anyone else in the car, though – otherwise people would lose their mind …or their hearing).

2. When I see something in a store that I simply can't live without, I have to buy it, whether I can afford it or not. I'm not very good at convincing myself that I don't need it or can't afford it, so the safest solution is simply not to enter a certain store if I know there's a chance that I could be tempted to buy something expensive.

3. If I was a character in The Lion King, my motto would surely be "Hakuna Matata". I tend to take matters too easy, and it takes a lot to make me worry about anything. Of course it's quite nice to have the ability to keep calm, but sometimes I’d wish that I’d take things a bit more seriously.

4. Although I’m normally a quite calm and cheerful person, I can turn 180° in a second if something annoys me sufficiently. It really takes a lot, though. If it’s another person that makes me turn these 180°, most likely I’ll never speak to him/her again, because it takes a really disrespectful behavior to make me this angry.

5. Most of my friends are older than me. I’ve always felt more comfortable amongst people older than me – at work, the colleagues I talk to the most, are at least 10 years older than me. Some of them are 30 years older than me.

6. I lose my concentration when I’ve been working on the same thing a longer period of time. For example, I’ve started working on at least a dozen of homepages, but every single time, after a couple of weeks it doesn’t interest me anymore. It doesn’t necessarily have to do anything with work – the same thing goes for using the internet, listening to music, chatting, going out and spending time with friends. When something has been going on for some time, I need a break from it, otherwise I feel like I’m choking in it.

That was about it, I guess.

Now on to the tagging part…
I'm tagging [info]inuitka, [info]tarzanfan, [info]nordiclania, [info]quasilie, [info]ioet and [info]zarxos.

Wedding [
April 20th 2006
Thursday, 06:31]
[ mood | Happy ]
[ music | »Two princes« by Spin Doctors ]

One of my friends (the one whose bachelor's party I attended last month) got married in the town I come from Saturday, so I was staying with my parents from Friday to Sunday.
Friday my grandmothers came over for the annual Easter dinner – it was very nice to see them again, it's been a while since I last saw them. My father's mother is getting weirder and weirder by the day. I mean, she has always been kinda weird, but it definitely hasn't got any better as she gets older… She has some really funny ideas from time to time.
I had brought her some perennials for her garden, since it was her birthday a couple of weeks ago. She liked them a lot – her garden is one of the things she cares most about, so it's quite ideal that her birthday is in the springtime.

The wedding went really well. Christina, the bride, was so beautiful. Normally, she isn't the prettiest girl in the world, but she really looked smashing.
I've only attended one wedding before this one, so I didn't really remember any of the traditions and events that usually takes place. However, I was quite disappointed about how fast Christina and her father's walk down the aisle was over – I'm used to seeing weddings in American movies with lots of bride maids and the organ playing the usual wedding tune… But apparently, we don't use that tune here in Denmark – instead they played some really fast-paced tune, so they almost had to run up to the altar.
Well, it still was a beautiful wedding. And the weather was so lovely.

The party afterwards was great – there were about 70 guests, so the party was rocking. It was on a restaurant/hotel situated on one of the highest places in Denmark, so the (ocean) view from up there was really beautiful.
I had arranged with my dad that he would pick me up when I called him – I don't know what time it was, but the sun was about to rise and the birds were singing, so I guess it had been a fun evening :)
Honestly, I don't remember that much from the party, since we drank quite a lot (Jutland is the place in Denmark where people drink the most). Hope I didn't do anything too embarrassing… Well, if I did, I didn't know that many of the people there anyways.

There are two more weddings on the schedual this summer. It's quite funny that I've only been at one wedding my whole life, and suddenly there are three in a row.

Mayhem [
April 12th 2006
Wednesday, 21:42]
[ mood | Drained ]
[ music | »Mountain song« by Gangway ]

Chaos. What a day! Just got home from work, but I can almost still hear the rumbling of thousands of people groceryshopping like madmen.
Shops are closed Thursday and Friday because of Easter, and people are going totally crazy. I think each family has been buying groceries for at least 1.000 Dkr (134 €), and most of them probably twice that amount or even more.
The credit card machines were quite overloaded, so we had to run around resetting them every five minutes. There hasn't been a calm moment during the entire evening, so I really need to just lie down and relax…
I'm so gonna enjoy the rest of the week – luckily one of my colleagues has taken my shift on Saturday, since I'm going to a wedding in Jutland and to the reception and party afterwards.

One of my friends just lost her baby. She's amazingly enthusiastic and positive, though. Luckily (to look on the bright side), she was only 11 weeks pregnant – it would have been somewhat worse if it had been 8 months or something. But still, it must be really hard.
They're both very optimistic and are just going to give it another try – so hopefully things will work out better the next time.

Swimming [
April 11th 2006
Tuesday, 18:16]
[ mood | Exhausted ]
[ music | »You'll be in my heart« by Phil Collins ]

Went swimming today – for the first time in several months. The first time since last summer, I guess.
I love swimming. I really do. But also, I really feel exhausted right now… Haven't been doing anything too physically challenging for quite some time, so my whole body feels … numb. The good way, though.

I saw the cutest white hamster in a pet store today! Awww… So cuddly. Almost like a small ball of cotton. I was so close to buying him/her, but then I decided that it would probably be better to wait a while before getting one again.
Actually, I haven't really been missing having one, but when I saw this cute little fellow… *sigh*

Went to a huge garden center called Plantorama. Spent around 150 € there. They seriously had everything one could ask for when it comes to indoor and outdoor plants and containers. Gotta go there again sometime, but not until I've planted all of the bulbs and perennials I've bought during spring. I think there's nearly around 100 plants in my garden, standing in pots, just waiting to be put in the ground.

Bought a couple of jeans and a pullover, too. Oh, and I found a quite handy book about a subject as boring as … wall colors.

The new colour book

Quite clever, actually – it's a spiral book with pictures of living rooms, bedrooms and kitchens – and all pages are split into three parts; Floor, walls and ceiling, so you can browse through the colors and then, for example, check out how a certain wall color combined with a certain floor looks like.
I think this book might come handy the next time the walls are gonna be painted in a new color. It's somewhat easier to get a hang of how the rooms will look like before you start painting.

Weekend update [
April 9th 2006
Sunday, 19:55]
[ mood | Relaxed ]
[ music | »Inci tanem« by Tarkan ]

I went to the movies Friday with Dina, Ann, Trine and Sofie to see »Ice Age 2«. We were going to get something to eat before the movie started, but since we didn't have a lot of time, since Sofie, Ann and Trine had been at work, we decided that it would be the easiest and fastest solution to just grab a couple of sandwiches at Sunset Boulevard.
I actually hadn't even seen the first Ice Age movie, since I became so annoyed with Sid's horrible Danish voice that I just decided to put the DVD back on the shelf.
Luckily, we had bought tickets for the original version with English dialogue and Danish subs.
I really enjoyed the movie. Great fun. Normally, I don't like those 3-D movies – and normally, I prefer Disney's animated movies, but I must say that I was very positively surprised of this one. I especially enjoyed the cameo appearances by Scrat, the squirrel from the first movie, still struggling to collect his beloved acorns. And the possums, Crash and Eddie were quite funny, too.
I really liked the score during the scene where Ellie finally realises that she is actually a mammoth … so beautiful *sigh*
I must look around for the soundtrack someday. Well, the scene itself was kinda touching, too (although the concept of her not being aware that she was a mammoth was kinda silly).
I ate so much candy and popcorn that I was feeling sick. Don't I ever learn from previous mistakes? Apparently not.

Ice Age 2

Yesterday, we were visiting a couple of friends for dinner. It had been almost a year since we last met, so it was really nice to see them again.
I was really surprised about how big they both had gotten. Well, they had always been overweight, but not as much as they are now. They were serving home-made burgers, so I suppose if that is what's on the menu every now and then, it's no wonder they've gained so much weight.
It's kinda funny, actually – they had a child a couple of years ago, and since then, they've both changed into totally different persons. Before they (well, mostly she) were the quintessence of style and minimalism – everything had to be expensive and fashionable. Now there was dirty clothes lying around and withered flowers in the windows. What a difference! It made me think of an episode of »Absolutely fabulous« where one of Edina's old friends and her husband (who used to be really trendy) visit her … bringing their baby and tons of diapers, toys and other nursery accessories.
Anyways, we ended up playing a PS2 game called »Buzz«, which is kinda like a video game version of Trivial Persuit or some other quiz game, where each player has a buzzer. It was really funny, actually – I think it'll be on my wish list for my birthday.

Tomorrow we're going to Odense with one of our friends. It'll be so nice to go shopping again! Haven't been out shopping for a long time…

Have just got 7.800 Dkr. (about 1.000 €) back in taxes, so there's plenty of money to spend :D
Well, at first it seemed that I had to pay around 11.000 Dkr. (yikes!), but it turned out that I had multiplied a figure with just 1 instead of 1,68… Phew!

Schools are closed until next Tuesday (April 18th) because of Easter, and I'm only going to work on Wednesday, so I'm just going to relax, have fun and do nothing serious at all the entire next week. Ahhhh… Life is sweet.

Happy Easter…? [
April 5th 2006
Wednesday, 19:10]
[ mood | Whooping ]
[ music | »I don't wanna know« by Mario Winans feat. P. Diddy ]

I got an A for my finance midterm examination … And another A for my sales project :) Whoot!
I just realised that there's only about a month left of school… Kinda sad, actually – I mean, it'll be sad not to see my classmates every day anymore. I sincerely hope that we'll be able to stick together afterwards. Well, at least some of us. There's a couple of them I don't care much about, but they usually just hang out together, so I don't really notice they're there.

Monday, April 3rd, we were out on a concert with our choir – well, it was actually a lecture about the history of gospel music by our conductor, and the choir was going to sing some music samples from the various periods of time. I was actually looking forward to it a lot, since our last concert was a real blast – the audience was ROCKING.
However, it turned out that we were only going to sing a couple of songs, and the rest of the time, we were just supposed to stand there and wait for the next song. And we're talking about 15 to 30 minutes between each song. Yawn. The audience was quite small – and the people present weren't exactly the most exciting audience in the world.

Yesterday as I was going to work, an old man stopped, lifted his hat and said »Happy Easter, Sir« … Huh? What was that about? Well, I am aware that it's Easter in about two weeks, but … passing people being polite all of a sudden? I am shocked.

April fools [
April 1st 2006
Saturday, 18:22]
[ mood | Cheerful ]
[ music | »Guru bramha« by Jai Uttal ]

I think my boss had totally forgotten that it was April 1st.
During the afternoon I called her from the room where the store's main computer server is, sounding quite desperate, asking her if she would run into the room behind the office and find a really important document I needed to correct a problem.
So she ran in there and browsed through my stuff. Suddenly I heard a loud roar; She had found what I was looking for – a sheet of paper with the word »Aprilsnar« (April fool) printed on it.

Later during the afternoon, my boss gave me some new teaching material that the staff manager had asked her to give me. I'm making introduction courses for new employees app. once a month, and this new material was intended for a course for future employees in the delicatessen section they will make in the store during summer.
I quickly browsed through the material, and noticed that it was about bacteriology, laws regarding preparation and storage of foods, management skills and other things I don't have a clue about.
WTF?! I thought and decided to call the staff manager to ask him what this was all about. He said that he didn't have any meetings, so if I came up to his office, we could have a look at it.
So I went to his office, and we had a look at it. The more I looked at this material, the more confused and despondent I got.
Suddenly, a voice right next to me said »April fool!«. I had completely forgotten about my prank earlier – but apparently my boss hadn't… Hehe XD

Oops… Where did those money go? [
March 29th 2006
Wednesday, 21:09]
[ mood | Silly ]
[ music | »What's new pussycat« by Tom Jones ]

Today has probably been the most boring day (well, evening) at work ever. There has seriously been nothing to do. Well, we've just been talking and kidding around, so it's been quite relaxing. But still, I thought this evening would never end.

I just checked my home banking, and it turns out that I've spent around 100 € on drinks at the disco last Saturday… No wonder I was more dead than alive the next day… o.O

A very exciting information: I've bought some new shaving gel.
I was so goddamn tired of the nasty smell of the shaving foam I had, and then I stumbled across some Gilette shaving gel (for women) with various scents :)
So I bought some called »Radiant apricot«, »Floral passion«, »Wild berry« and »Oceania«. I especially like »Oceania«, which smells exactly like the ocean down south. Wow. Normally when shampoos etc. are supposed to smell like the ocean, they just smell like dirty socks and highway restrooms.

I found a Danish spelling test on a TV station's website today. A couple of days ago, they mentioned in the news that Danish teachers and reporters generally weren't very good at spelling right. So they had been testing some of the teacher and reporter students, and the average percentage of mistakes turned out to be almost 50%… It's kinda disturbing that our future teachers, who are going to teach kids to spell, are that terrible at it.
Anyways, I took the test, and I made 3 mistakes. I was actually quite surprised that I even made any, since I've always been very good at spelling things right. And in school I always got an A when we had a spelling test.
Well, the test was filled with difficult words you don't normally use, so it doesn't really bother me. But still, I think it's impressive that other people – even people who are studying to be teachers and reporters – were able to get 50% of the words wrong.

I found THIS, by the way… The »real« Simpsons out there.
